2.6 Workmanship. All workmanship shall conform to good commercial practice. Shelving shall be free of burrs, snags and rough or sharp edges.
3. Quality assurance.
3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, complies with the referenced industry standards, and is the same as the product sold in the commercial marketplace, except for those additional requirements/characteristics specified herein. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under provisions of the contract.
3.2 End item testing. The shelf load test of 3.2.1 and upright load test of 3.2.2 shall be performed on the shelves and uprights, respectively, to determine conformance to the requirements of 2.3.1 and 2.3.2. The lot size shall be the number of shelving units presented for acceptance at one time. The sample unit shall be one complete 3 or 4 foot wide section (as applicable) of shelving and the sample size shall be determined by the application of inspection level S-1 of MIL-STD-105 to the lot size. The failure of any sample unit to pass the tests specified shall be cause for rejection of the lot.
3.2.1 Shelf load test. A representative shelf shall be installed on the uprights. The uprights shall be restrained in such a manner that, when the shelf is uniformly loaded as specified herein, only the structural deflection of the shelf itself affects the measurement. The shelf shall be preloaded with a 100-pound load uniformly distributed to remove mechanical clearances prior to application of the total test load. A measuring device shall be zeroed in at the 100-pound load. Uniformly distributed test loads shall be applied for 1 hour and then removed. Permanent shelf deformation shall be measured at the 100-pound level after removal of the test load. Any permanent deflection in excess of 1/16-inch shall constitute failure of the test.
3.2.2 Upright load test. Shelves and decks shall be installed as required on the wall or island shelving using three uprights. Permanent deformation shall be measured at the top of the middle upright. Each shelf and deck shall be preloaded with a 100-pound load uniformly distributed to remove mechanical clearances prior to application of the total teat load. A measuring device shall be zeroed in at the 100-pound load. Wall shelving shall then be uniformly loaded to a total of 320 pounds per shelf and deck. Island shelving shall be similarly loaded, but only on one side and both decks. The test load shall be applied for 1 hour and then removed. Permanent deformation of the top of the upright shall be measured at the 100-pound level after removal of the test load. Any deformation in excess of l/16-inch shall constitute failure of the test.
