COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CABINET, KEY AND IDENTIFICATION SYSTEMS
This General Services
Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a
replacement for Type II, Class A of Federal
Specification AA-C-30D, for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers lockable, wall-mounted key cabinets, with key tags, and a single identification system.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Capacity. The minimum key-capacity shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order.
2.2 Label holders. Label holders and labels shall be provided for each set of identical keys up to the key cabinet capacity. Unless otherwise specified, the labels shall be blank on one side and numbered from 1 up to the capacity of the cabinet. The labels shall be rigid or rigidly supported so that they do not become accidentally dislodged or distorted.
2.3 Key tags. Key tags are required. The key tag system shall be a dual or two tag system providing for file and working or loaner keys.
2.4 Single identification system. A single identification system shall consist of a simple record of key identification symbols, corresponding to those assigned to a lock location, and a record of key loans. The key and lock location symbols may or may not be identical. Identification aids furnished shall not be less than one ledger, record book, card index, or other recording device.
2.5 Lock. The cabinet shall be provided with a cylinder or plug lock or padlock with a hasp and staple. Two keys shall be provided.
2.6 Cabinet construction. The cabinets shall be made of steel. The cabinet hinges shall be of all-metal construction, and may be either one full length piano-type hinge or at least three 2-1/4 inches long butt hinges, each having a fastened hinge pin. Provisions shall be made in the back for fastening the cabinet to the wall with screws.
